Measuring Brain Performance with CAPITO
CAPITO has been designed for tracking your brain performance during practices like Neurofeedback, Meditation, (Low Level) Light Therapy or transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS). You can also use it for any other kind of impact that might change your brain activity like stress, bad sleep and any change in mood or wellbeing.
While there are many ways to measure brain performance, Reaction Time (RT) tests can very effectively show you how fast neurons can process information in your brain. CAPITO does something very similar to the RT-test. However, we think it also important to sometimes inhibit a response in the right moment, in order to get a clear picture of how capable your brain really is.
That’s why in the CAPITO-Attention-Task you will have to continuously make the decision whether to react or not to react. We do this by giving you two kinds of interfering information: word and color.
For example, you see the word „blue", but it is actually colored yellow. You will see how challenging this task actually is when you have to name just the color, not the word. These two contradicting attributes make it harder for your brain to quickly assess the stimuli.
The story behind CAPITO
CAPITO, which is an acronym for „Cognitive And Psychophysiological Test Operations", was originally designed by Thomas F. Feiner, director of the Institute for EEG-Neurofeedback in Munich. Thomas developed CAPITO together with other renowned experts in neuroscience and a programming team to create a powerful software that could measure reaction times, constant attention, selective attention, impulse control, and resilience. It has since become an invaluable tool for many practitioners and researchers for obtaining large amounts of important information on brain performance.
The PC-Version of CAPITO offers a much wider array of possibilities and applications: stimulus presentation for Event-Related Potentials (ERPs), analysis for the emotional decision-making model, compatibility with BrainAvatar to create 3D-brain-images and many more.
What is IFEN?
The Institute for EEG-Neurofeedback (IFEN) in Munich is one of Germany's most highly recognized providers for professional education in Neurofeedback and other related techniques since 2008. It has since then established next-generation Neurofeedback training in Europe utilizing cutting edge technologies like sLORETA or Z-Score Training.
Thomas F. Feiner is the BCIA-certified founder and director of IFEN. He collaborates with brain research centers and clinics worldwide to promote development and application of Neurofeedback, Quantitative EEG, Biomarkers and Event-Related Potentials.
